Ben Grimes spent 20 years in the U.S. Army as a UH-60 Blackhawk pilot and decorated military attorney, where he learned that the difference between a team that holds together under pressure and one that doesn't is rarely technical. After retiring from the Army, he built on that foundation through legal practice, teaching at Columbia Law School, and training as an ICF-certified executive coach, developing a body of work centered on the human side of leadership in high-stakes professional environments. His work is grounded in a straightforward diagnosis: Most organizations don't have a strategy problem or a culture problem, they have an alignment problem, and the leaders who solve it are the ones who combine intellectual rigor with genuine care for the people they lead. Through Alturos Edge, Ben works with executives, leadership teams, and organizations that are serious about building that kind of alignment, not as an aspiration, but as a competitive advantage. His book, Empathy-Driven Leadership, is forthcoming.

Leadership coaching is a structured partnership designed for your professional growth. Unlike a class or a workshop, coaching doesn't deliver a predetermined curriculum. It starts with where you are, what you're working toward, and what's getting in the way. Together, we clarify your goals, examine the assumptions and habits that shape your leadership, and build a plan for moving forward with greater intention and effectiveness. The agenda is yours. My job is to ask the right questions, offer honest perspective, and hold you accountable to the commitments you make.

During coaching sessions, we'll begin by taking stock of where you are or what's happened since we last met, what's working, and what still feels unresolved. From there, we'll identify the focus for the session, which may be something you've been thinking about or something that's just come up for you. The bulk of our time is spent in conversation. I'll ask a lot of questions, and some of them will push you to think about things differently than you have before. We'll close by clearly naming what you've taken from the session and agreeing on what you'll carry forward. This may be a new habit, a conversation to have with a colleague, or some other commitment to yourself.
